Current Projects

  • Rainbow Forest

The Rainbow Forest is a combination of components, smaller projects, coming together to create a greater vision - planting a forest of 10000 trees near Cape Town in South Africa that is an organic sculpture garden and home to the Imagination School.
Trees are planted by buying art and; a community and conversation is started by building a collaborative sculptural forest.

  • This is an exploration of seeds and the concept of potentiality they represent. A series of giant size seeds developed through visual investigations, drawings and collaborative sculptures.
Contemplating the beginnings of a thousand year old tree is a magnificent perspective shifter. It has one wondering who one could truly be if we nurtured our wildest dreams!

  • Imagination School

The next frontier is our imagination.
The Imagination School is aimed instigating a generation of imaginaires; visionaries; solutionists; transformers and manifestors who trust and believe in possibilities beyond our current understanding. They are able to see the present world and imagine it differently. Their lives lived, are extensions of their ever changing understanding.

  • The Banquet Sweden

This Swedish version is a collaboration with artist, Lena Boda, and curator, Hans Davis.
The Banquet is the perfect intervention for integration of people of a variety of cultures. A range of workshops will lead us into this interactive installation.
Sitting down at a table together; sharing food; moments of our lives; slices of our dreams is the nectar of being alive.

  • Odins Eye & Tree of Wisdom

Odin is a norse God who traded his eye for wisdom.
Odin's Eye is a large-scale land artwork in Sweden that can be seen from Google Earth and will last for over a thousand years.
In the center of Odin's Eye is the Tree of Wisdom. It will be built using the basic elements of existence as inspiration and will become a hub for experiential, exponential learning and understanding.

Past Adventures

  • Lunga Lighthouse Trees2017

Lunga is an Art Festival in Seyðisfjarðar, Iceland. Its a week of creative workshops in this small town surrounded by mountains and waterfalls.
Nix lead the design and direction of a collection of internationals to create the final installation for the festival using discarded materials from surrounding factories.

  • Yggdrasil. Tree of Life.2017

Designed to be impossibly possible; an invitation to exist in the unknown and trust.
For two months a group of changing people lived and built The Tree of Life. They faced the adverse conditions of weather, materials, illness, human defeat verses the passion and dreams alive in their hearts and souls.

  • Dream Yggdrasil2016

Dream Yggdrasil is a Swedish non-profit organisation set up by Agust Orn Helgeson and Nix.
It is born out of a shared vision of instigating positive change through creativity. Dream Yggdrasil creates collaborative platforms that uses large-scale art to build exponential, experimental communities.

  • X Here2016

You are treasure right where you are. This giant golden X was an land art installation at Afrikaburn 2016. It is a follow on from the concept of being 'The Pirate of Your Life. X marks the spot where you stand. Where you stand is pure treasure.
  • Ensuring we have lived the life we love requires us to look for treasure in every moment.

  • This is a beautiful ceremonial space created in a natural amphitheatre with rocks collected from the immediate mountain area. It is in Citrusdal in the Western Cape in South Africa and can be seen from google earth.

  • How does one become The Howl? Actioning the yearning of passion from ones heart. A Giant Wolf head made of Port Jackson and twine. This was a remarkable lesson trusting materials. Who knew that twine and sticks could be so strong? This has stood for 2 years in Citrusdal, South Africa.

  • Abracadabra - 'I create as I speak'.

  • The village feast, a collaborative, inclusive and interactive art installation based around food and provenance.

  • Ikstingkt: Horny Alive and Free. Larger than life-size cardboard beasts.

  • Ball Of Joy2008-2016

These massive woven balls are magnets for interaction. They started in 2008 in London when someone left a pile of sticks outside Nix's classroom. She has made them in Amsterdam and South Africa.
They are getting bigger and have more recently become rolling spaces people can climb in and hang out.

About

Nix Davies

"Through the mystery of navigating the unknown we are able to wondrously unravel our hearts to expose their true nature.“

Nix Davies is a collaborative, conceptual artist that explores possibilities that arise from consciously stepping into and existing in the unknown. She creates and produces large-scale experiential spaces, events and artworks that ordinarily are impossible to create alone. Nix initiates, instigates and ignites concepts by establishing a platform that require others to step up, risk, interact and belong to the process alongside her. This requires Nix to co-create; manage individuals and groups; and produce an over all piece of work by consciously making or facilitating a series of choices of best possible solutions for specific moments.

Nix often embarks on ‘life installations’ that showcase the emerging and developing of concepts along an ordinarily unknown journey. It is while living and navigating these spaces that she breathes ideas to life.

  • Nix Davies is the founder of The School Of Innovation.
  • Nix ran a collaborative, changing, working space called Let There Be Light in Woodstock for four years at the Woodstock Industrial Centre and Side Street Studios.
  • Nix has recently moved to a farm outside Citrusdal in the Western Cape where she has created Howl from Your Heart and the Hexagon Ceremonial Space.
